For Honor is a brutal, TPP action game in a quasi-historical reality, focused around multiplayer skirmishes. The PC / Windows version is the creation of the renowned Ubisoft Montreal studio.

The storyline of For Honor takes place in a pseudo-medieval world, where three faction are constantly at war with one another. The Chosen are the equivalent of Japanese samurai, The Legions were created to resemble the European knights, and The Warborn are a very similar band to the Scandinavian Vikings.

On the PC / Windows each of the sides of the conflict is represented by dozens of warriors; however, only four of them per faction are controlled by players. The characters they fight with are extremely skillful fighters with special abilities and they stand out significantly from the ordinary soldiers controlled by the AI; the player-controlled heroes are the ones who determine the outcome of the battle, showing up in key places of the skirmish and tipping the scales in the favor of their faction, unless they are confronted by a player (or multiple players) from the other faction, which is why swordplay is a fundamental part of the game.

Despite a light-handed approach towards being historically correct, when it comes to the choice of factions, the devs have put a lot of effort towards making the fighting styles of knights, samurai and Vikings as realistic as possible. They have also designed a game mechanic called Art of Battle, which makes the side which you hold your weapon on extremely important, as e.g. you will not block a strike from your left side if you previously choose to parry to your right side. The special attacks are also worth mentioning, for spectacularly dispatching an enemy player we can call in e.g. a catapult barrage or temporarily increase the fighting ability of nearby soldiers.

For Honor for PC / Windows also has a single player campaign, in which we are introduced to the world of the production. The game distinguishes itself from other online titles by having advanced graphics and a unique theme.

Expectations: 9.4 / 10 calculated out of 606 players’ votes.

Escape from Tarkov is a FPS/TPS MMO with elements of RPG and survival sandbox, in which players become members of two military corps, fighting each other in the titular Russian city. The game was created by Battlestate Games, a developer from Saint Petersburg, whose employees are not new to the genre, as they previously worked on such famous franchises as S.T.A.L.K.E.R., Mass Effect, and BioShock.

Story

The game is set in a devastated Russian city of Tarkov, covering 16 square kilometers, sealed off from the world by forces of the Russian Federation and the United Nations. Players join one of two rivaling military corporations and fight for survival in this seemingly abandoned, although dangerous metropolis. Unlike many other popular MMO shooters, this game is accompanied by an interesting story. Players can engage in numerous special missions, jobs, and riddles that gradually reveal the mysteries of Tarkov.

Gameplay

Although the core of the gameplay is competitive team-based multiplayer, the game is not only about shooting. One of the characteristic features of Escape from Tarkov is the freedom to roam about the entire city, interact with non-player characters, and engage in a whole bunch of various activities. You can thus assault enemy bases, perform secret missions (on your own or with friends), or simply explore and collect items that can be exchanged with other players in special locations.

What is especially interesting is the game’s extraordinary character progression system, which accumulates several types of experience, depending on what type of activity you are performing. As you progress, you can master over a hundred diverse skills, split into four main categories: physical, cognitive, combat, and practical. The game also offers wide possibilities of weapon modifications and upgrades.

A crucial gameplay element is survival. It turns out that the city itself, with its unfriendly conditions and dangers lurking at every turn, is as deadly as enemy mercenaries. Your character can die not only by enemy bullets, but also due to injuries, illnesses, exhaustion, dehydration, or contamination from radioactive substances. This also means that you always need to have enough food, water, medicines, and other essentials in order to survive.

Game modes

The production from Battlestate Games is an online game at its core, focusing on team-based competition for up to 64 players. However, the abundance of extra activities introduces a sandbox character into the game, making it accessible for both PvP enthusiasts and those who prefer to play solo in PvE modes.

Technical aspects

Escape from Tarkov, released on PC / Windows, stands out from the crowd with its photorealistic graphics achieved with a modern 3D scanning technology of real-life locations (also used in Get Even, a game by Polish developer The Farm 51). The developers put great emphasis on realism of gameplay, evident in such things as accurate bullets ballistics, a full procedural effect system, absolute control of movement, interaction with environment, and advanced weapon and character customization.

MIGHT – Beta Sign Up

MIGHT – Beta Sign Up

MIGHT beta

MIGHT is an impressive multiplayer brawler with lush hand painted-styled visuals, that focuses on fair gameplay and easily accessible fun as players battle for dominance in fast paced arena combat.

MIGHT features a large variety of classes, each with their own play styles, but thankfully none are locked behind paywalls or grinding – they’re all unlocked right from the start. The only unlocks via gameplay are entirely cosmetic, so a newcomer has access to the same tools as a seasoned pro. The character classes are designed to be easy to pick up and play, but still allow for plenty of tactical depth for players to master.

It’s still early in development, but visually MIGHT is already very impressive, and the dev team are taking great strides to promote fair and fun gameplay, with no unfair unlocks and matchmaking that focuses on balancing teams of equal skill levels. If you’re interested in MOBA’s but find them impenetrable, this very well MIGHT be worth checking out!
